Dr. Fredrick Santangelo

Being in a chiropractic family it was almost inevitable my path in life was to become a chiropractor. As a young man growing up in Newark, NJ, I watched patients enter my fathers home-office all bent over in pain and walk out standing straight! I would sometimes meet his patients in the community and they would say ,”your Dr. Santangelo’s son right? Thank God for your father; without him I wouldn’t be walking, he saved my life!”

In my many years of practice, I’ve always prided myself in keeping up with different modalities that could enhance the chiropractic experience for our patients. For instance acupuncture promotes blood flow to an area, which in turn promotes healing. When there is persistent pain there are usually stagnant energy flows. We added acupuncture to speed the healing process.

Physical Therapy strengthens the surrounding muscles which is very important after a chiropractic adjustment which aligns the vertebrae into proper position. Each modality enhances the others.

My Education

I began my pre-chiropractic education at St. Bernard College and then at Seton Hall University where I studied the basic sciences such as inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, biology, along with basic physiology and anatomy courses.

After completing my pre-chiropractic education, I was accepted at Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa. During my four years at Palmer, I took courses that included human anatomy, biochemistry, physiology, neurology, pathology and diagnosis. All with a major emphasis on how structure relates to function. X-ray technique and interpretation, and most importantly chiropractic adjusting techniques and patient care in the Palmer College Public Clinic. I was one of ten chiropractic students chosen as a Senior Clinic Intern where my duties included supervising other Chiropractic clinic ex-terns in their chiropractic adjusting techniques. After graduating in 1978 I returned to Newark, NJ to join my father in his established practice of 30 years.

My Purpose

Our practice has always been devoted to my guiding purpose of “wanting to help others.” By providing the highest quality health care services to each patient with the expressed intent to relieve their suffering and restore optimal health and function whenever possible. We work closely with local medical doctors, orthopedists and neurologists in our community to ensure each patient has every possible avenue of recovery.

My Family

I am married to Jane who I met while doing what we both love to do, dance. I have a daughter, Christina, who was married to Jason. I have two beautiful grandchildren, Mary Jane and Charlie. I really enjoy being with my family and friends enjoying a good meal and good company. I love reading, studying philosophy, human rights and spirituality.

My brother is Dr. Salvatore Santangelo, he is also a chiropractor. We get together to exchange chiropractic wellness adjustments bimonthly without fail. Both of us were raised by our chiropractic father knowing chiropractic first, drugs second and surgery last.
